Lower Elementary (grades 1-3) and Upper Elementary (grades 4-6)Lower Elementary (Grades 1-3)With craft and drama activities, this group is using the Unitarian Universalist curriculum Timeless Themes to learn the stories and ageless themes of the Hebrew and Christian Bibles. Such universal human themes include belief in a transcendent power, responsibility for one’s actions, freedom for all, speaking out against injustice, respecting others’ beliefs, and forgiveness. Children are encouraged to think about which issues either support or challenge our Unitarian Universalist principles and purposes. Upper Elementary (Grades 1-3) Through Living the Promise, a Unitarian Universalist values-oriented curriculum, the class is learning some of the wisdom of the Hebrew scriptures. The theme of “covenant” as found in the ancient stories is examined as are ideas about trust, personal responsibility and justice. The themes of the Hebrew stories help children gain a better understanding of their cultural and Unitarian Universalist roots. |
