Worship Services - October

Sunday Service Time: 10:30 A.M.  - Child care provided.

Our theme for the month of October is Compassion.
Note: The Order of Service is uploaded when it becomes available.

October 4, 2015
We begin our month of Compassion with a special multi-generational worship service led by Rev. Greg, the Young Religious Unitarian Universalists (YRUU), and some special guests. Rev. Greg will preach a homily called “Breathe With Me,” considering what it takes spiritually so that we may be compassionately engaged in the work of talking about race. He will then be joined by Linda Lucero and Apryl Walker from the Coalition to Dismantle the New Jim Crow, who will lead the congregation through two exercises designed to build a practice of clearness, honesty, listening, and compassionate understanding. We will also be joined by Amy Kaufman, the president and founder of the Shauna Rose Kaufman Foundation who will speak to the compassionate work they are doing in Nepal.

We welcome steel drummer Mike Cook whose music is designed to bring happiness - to remind us that our practices of compassion must include joy. Peg Duffy will accompany our hymns.

Worship Services - September

Sunday Service Time: 10:30 A.M.  - Child care provided.

Our theme for the month of September is Generosity.
Note: The Order of Service is uploaded when it becomes available.

Join us for worship this Sunday, September 27th at 10:30 am

Continuing on our theme of Generosity, this week we welcome back Rev. Keith Goheen who will present his sermon, “A Mountain of Bread.” Rev. Goheen will be joined by the UUSMC Choir. Our Religious Exploration will assemble first in the Sanctuary for the initial part of worship, then will be dismissed to their classrooms for fun and creative exploration of how they can be generous in their lives.

Come early! Our Adult Religious Education group meets every Sunday before service in the MacArtor Library at 9:15 am. This week we will be *continuing* with the PBS documentary, Slavery by Another Name that challenges one of Americans’ most cherished assumptions: the belief that slavery in this country ended with the Emancipation Proclamation. For most Americans this is entirely new history. Slavery by Another Name gives voice to the largely forgotten victims and perpetrators of forced labor and features their descendants living today. All are invited to join in the conversation!

It’s going to be another great day at Mill Creek!

Support the Kaleidoscope Concert Series

The Kaleidoscope Concert Series is a series of high-quality, professional concerts featuring local musicians, with an eye for diversity in genre and style: a colorful array of musical events.  This series is an official outreach program to the community at large. We wish to provide our musicians with a fair payment for services rendered while keeping ticket prices accessible for the local community. With the funds raised via this Faithify effort, we will be able to provide the musicians with a guaranteed fair wage payment.

If we are unable to meet our Faithify goal, we will only be able to pay the musicians a portion of the ticket proceeds, which might not equal a fair wage for the performance.

The Kaleidoscope Concert Series team (the UUSMC music committee) is comprised entirely of volunteers; no one at UUSMC is paid for working on this outreach program. It is our hope that in the future we will be able to sustain completely on ticket revenue from year to year.

* Faithify supporters will be publicly recognized in our Season 2 program, and for each $50 donation you can receive a voucher for one ticket to a concert of your choice in Season 2.  (please email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to redeem)

Budget Drive 2015-2016

UUSMC depends on the financial support of our members and friends.  The payroll, mortgage and other costs to run the church total about $17,000 a month.  Most members make an annual pledge commitment and donate throughout the year. Pledge and any other contributions can be made during our Sunday services, or you may mail a check to the church.  (Please write “Bookkeeper” on the lower left corner of your envelope).

Sunday Flowers

UUSMC Sunday Flowers

Flowers make a lovely addition to our services. You may donate a flower arrangement to honor a special person, an occasion, or just because. The donating member may bring the arrangement home after the service. Simply sign up in the lobby or contact the office administrator. Write your check for $30, $40, or $50 to UUSMC and write flowers and the date of the chosen service on the memo line. Place your payment in the box outside of the office or in the collection plate. Flower orders will be placed on Monday so payment must be received by the Monday prior to the Sunday requested.

Alternatively, you may bring in an arrangement from another source or one you’ve made yourself. If you’d like to bring in your own arrangement, please provide the office with advance notice so dedication information can be printed in the order of service

For more information please contact our office administrator, Debby Damiani, at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
