ALERT: EMAIL PHISHING SCAM
We are aware of a round of email phishing purporting to come from Rev. Christian Schmidt. The message reads as follows:

From: Rev. Christian Schmidt <minister.unitarian.church222@gmail.com>
Sent: Sunday, December 1, 2024 8:46:50 AM
Subject: Greetings

Hello, Are you less busy at the moment? I have a request for you to manage discreetly. I will be going into a meeting shortly, please no calls so kindly respond back via email.

Minister.

Please note that all of Rev. Christian’s emails concerning church-related matters will come from the.christian.schmidt@gmail.com or minister@uusmc.org. Emails from Rev. Christian will always be specific as to the reason for the message. Our mass emails (like the one you are reading now) come from news@uusmc.org.

If you ever receive an email that:
* seems suspicious
* is restrictive or requests that you do not make contact via phone
* is unlike something Rev. Christian would send (out of character)
* has blatant misspellings, or incorrect or unusual sentence structure
* is vague or secretive in nature, or
* asks ‘for a favor’…

DO NOT REPLY or click on any links! Simply DELETE the message.

The email was sent to every church email address we use; members or friends may have also received this message, or something similar. When these scams happen, we try to discover the source of their information (e.g. our website) but have found it difficult — the scammers are pretty clever, particularly this time of year. Unfortunately, we have no control over this type of fraud.

Always be alert, suspicious, and cautious regarding any email you receive purporting to come from UUSMC or any staff member. If you have any questions, we urge you to contact the church office. When in doubt, ask!
