America has a heart problem! In this country today poverty and inequality are rampant; voting rights and democracy are being trampled; millions of people lack the health care, living wage jobs, and quality education they need; and racism, hatred, and bigotry are disintegrating any possibility for life, liberty, and a pursuit of happiness for everyone in these United States.

Rev. William Barber II has told the nation, “We are called like our foremothers and forefathers to be the ‘moral defibrillators’ of our time. Together, we can save the heart of our democracy and ‘shock’ this nation with the power of love, mercy, and justice for all.”

On Monday, September 12, people of faith and moral courage will gather at state capitols in 25 states to deliver the “Higher Ground Moral Declaration” that calls on governors, senators, state legislators and candidates for office to move away from extremist politics and policies that benefit the few and move toward policies and laws that are just and fair and guarantee a better life for the majority of the people.
