Join us for worship this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. as Rev. Greg continues our monthly ministry theme of Hope with his message, “Among Us.”
During the worship service we will joyfully welcome a new member to our congregation.
Music will be performed by professional musicians Sharon Sable and E. Shawn Qaissaunee.
Children’s Religious Education (RE)
We welcome and look forward to children coming to Classroom One on Sunday after Reverend Greg’s Story! This Sunday we will be reading Laura Seeger’s book “I Used to be Afraid”. We will discuss how we have overcome fears and how we will be able to face new fears and worries with hope and courage.
Adult Religious Education (ARE)
This Sunday there are events planned before and after the service to provide additional preparation for our racial justice workshop with Chris Crass on January 14th.
Before service (9:15 a.m.): ARE will feature a conversation with Brian Alleyne. Brian is a member of the Wilmington Police Force who has been assisting the Coalition to Dismantle the New Jim Crow to orient young people on police interactions. He has also been consulting with UUDAN about criminal justice reform. Brian offers an inspiring life story and an engaging personality.
After service: At noon we will serve pizza for lunch and set up a big screen TV in the sanctuary to show Ava DuVernay’s extraordinary and galvanizing documentary 13th.
13th refers to the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which reads “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States.” The progression from that second qualifying clause to the horrors of mass incarceration and the sprawling American prison industry is laid out by DuVernay with bracing lucidity.
It’s going to be another great day at Mill Creek!
