Mill Creek Roots and Shoots – Kids Making a Difference

The Roots and Shoots Friends begin Sunday mornings with the entire congregation in worship in the sanctuary.  Following the Story for All Ages, they are dismissed from worship to their classroom where they select, research and engage in projects that impact the environment, animals and people.  Our Roots and Shoots class is a chapter of Jane Goodall’s International Roots and Shoots program.  Projects this year include:

  • Creating their own classroom covenant of Right Relations – an important step in learning leadership and clarifying their own expectations for a safe environment in their class.
  • A Peace March
  • A Movie Night to raise Funds for Jake’s Diapers (offering environmentally safe diapering solutions for people in Puerto Rico).
  • Learning about and helping Lemurs through the Madagascar Biodiversity Partnership
  • Occasional Slime Making and other messy projects

The Roots and Shoots Friends gather to participate in a Peace March throughout the park

This inspirational group of young people is truly making a difference in the world!
