Mill Creek Volunteer Highlight: Brian Hanson

This month, we are featuring Mill Creek volunteer and member, Brian Hanson. He took the time to answer a few of our questions so we could get to know him a little better. Here’s what he had to say:

Where are you from?
I was raised in the Midwest, and moved East as a teenager. Family home-based in DC suburbs through college (Boston), Navy (west coast). Delaware resident since 1972.

What brings you to Mill Creek?
Jeanne and I had been members of First Unitarian Church in Wilmington. We attended a Christmas Eve service here in 1991, started attending occasionally, then regularly, then joined in 1992. The friendly, welcoming atmosphere was present ever since the early days. Remembering our years at Tatnall and CACC, I really appreciate having our own building.

What class/classes to you teach at Mill Creek?
Jeanne and I teach OWL and Coming of Age to 12-13 year-olds.  We also sing in the choir, and I’m with the Pastoral Care Team.

What do you love most about Religious Education at Mill Creek?
The kids are absolutely wonderful!!

What would you tell someone who was thinking about volunteering in R.E. at Mill Creek?
Try it, you’ll love it!

Anything interesting you’d like us to know about you?
My maternal grandmother and paternal grandfather married each other late in life. So my parents became step-siblings and I became my own first cousin.

Thank you, Brian, for everything you do here at Mill Creek. You are so special to us!
