We are a community that invites you to awaken to love.
Here’s what’s happening at Mill Creek:

** Sunday Worship Service Information
January 26, 2025
10:30 am
————————————————————

The stories we tell over and over become the myths that form our ideas about the world, about one another, and about ourselves. Join Rev. Christian Schmidt this Sunday for his exploration of “Myth Making.”

Music for this service will be performed by Mill Creek member Emma Hull. Emma has a BA in creative writing from St. Lawrence University and currently works at New Garden Elementary School. Singing has been her passion for as long as she can remember; she has sung in several choirs throughout her high school and college careers. She currently serves on the music committee. Emma will be accompanied by her father, Chris Hull.

** A Word About Parking Lot & Walkway Conditions
————————————————————

The recent snowstorm in our area was a complex weather event which included several hours of heavy snow, periods of freezing rain, followed by more snow and low temperatures. As a result, complete removal of ice and snow from the parking lot and walkway surfaces has been challenging. We have done our best in dealing with this situation, but extremely low temperatures this week have made it very difficult.

Please be aware: several areas of our church property are still covered with a slippery combination of packed snow and ice as of the date of this communication. It is recommended that everyone take precautions before arriving to church – wear low heeled shoes or boots, have someone walk with you, etc.

** New Member Recognition Ceremony
————————————————————
If you have joined Mill Creek since our last ceremony, we will ritually welcome you in membership during our worship service on Sunday, February 2. The congregation will formally covenant with you, and you’ll receive a token of our esteem as part of the ritual. Confirm with Rev. Christian (minister@uusmc.org (mailto:minister@uusmc.org) ) if you will be in attendance.

** Mid-Year Congregational Meeting
————————————————————
Plan to join us on Sunday, February 2 for our mid-year congregational meeting. We’ll hear committee updates, and the Finance Committee will share the results of the 2025 Pledge Campaign.

** Super Bowl Saturday Potluck
————————————————————

Sponsored by:
Fellowship & Fun Committee

February 8 @ 5:00 pm

We might not yet know which teams will play in the Super Bowl, but we know where we need to be the night before —
at Mill Creek’s Super Bowl Saturday Potluck Dinner!
Everyone is welcome to join us, and bring a pot of soup, a loaf of bread, or a dessert to share. We will provide non-alcoholic beverages and a large leafy-green salad with different dressings. Come dressed in the colors of the team you want to win!

Planned activities include football trivia and a super special contest to win our door prize. There will also be an accompanying 50/50 fundraiser: buy a $5 ticket and you may win some super useful cash.

Let us know you’re interested in attending and how many are coming! Please RSVP to the Fellowship & Fun committee by clicking the button below (or look for the QR code in Sunday’s order of service or on the poster in the gathering space). We don’t need to know what you plan to bring, but we do appreciate seeing if the event draws the congregation’s interest. We are looking for at least 10 RSVPs to confirm the event on the calendar.

We’re looking forward to sharing a warming and SUPER Saturday evening together!

** Church Cancellation Procedures and Notification Methods
————————————————————
Speaking of winter storms…we never want to cancel our Sunday morning services, classes, or any event due to inclement weather. However, we also want everyone to be safe, so on occasion, we must – from an abundance of caution – cancel. Board policy leaves the decision to the minster and the board president. We always endeavor to make such decisions in a timely fashion.

If the decision to cancel is made we will: send out an email to all congregants, and post notice on Facebook (both the public and private UUSMC pages),

We are also linked with the local SnoWatch system. SnoWatch reports are broadcast on 1150 AM WDEL and 93.7 FM WSTW and are available online at wdel.com (https://www.wdel.com/features/wdel-stormwatch/) and wstw.com (https://www.wstw.com/wstw-stormwatch/) These links will also be available on the church website, uusmc.org.

So, particularly now through March, if the weather calls for any kind of dangerous precipitation, please check your inbox and/or the above media or call the church before heading out. We want everyone to be safe this winter!

** Current Share Our Plate Recipient
————————————————————
We regularly donate a half of our undesignated plate collection to a local charity or non-profit organization. For the months of January and February we are supporting:

Planned Parenthood of Delaware

Their mission is to actively promote reproductive health and responsible sexual behavior through the provision of comprehensive high-quality education, counseling, and medical services.

** Recurring Event: D & D
————————————————————

A fantasy tabletop role-playing game

The Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game is about storytelling in worlds of sword and sorcery. It shares elements with childhood games of make-believe. In the Dungeons & Dragons game, each player creates an adventurer (also called a character) and teams up with other adventurers (played by friends). Working together, the group might explore a dark dungeon, a ruined city, a haunted castle, a lost temple deep in a jungle, or a lava-filled cavern beneath a mysterious mountain. The adventurers can solve puzzles, talk with other characters, battle fantastic monsters, and discover fabulous magic items and other treasure. All are welcome to join the group on Sunday, February 2 & 16 at 12 pm in classroom 1. Occurs every 2 weeks on Sundays. Questions? Contact Tom Vincent (mailto:trv302@outlook.com) .

Realm is our church management software program. We use it exclusively for accounting, pledge data, membership, registration events, and more. Use the button below to access your Realm profile to make sure we have your most recent contact information, and make pledge payments and contributions.

** Moment of Reflection: A Poem for a Day Like This
————————————————————

In times of transition and uncertainty, we are often compelled to look at poetry to help us understand both the world we live in and the one we wish to create. To this end, the UUA shares the work of Rev. Julián Jamaica Soto: the butterfly effect. .
