As older generations and even our own siblings or cousins or friends downsize their homes or bequeath us their belongings, we may become the new owners of precious or untenable things. Heather Petit shares a little of what she has learned from receiving the expected, the unexpected, and sometimes nothing at all.

Heather (she/they) is a Candidate for UU ministry who graduated from Lancaster Theological Seminary in 2020 and interned with both EqUUal Access and here at the UU Society of Mill Creek. Heather’s entrepreneurial ministry is in creating and maintaining sustainable, relationally trustworthy workplaces. They currently employ this ministry in leadership and strategy work at a major data sciences firm. Heather is married, has four adult children, and lives in Newark, Delaware.

** Mill Creek Annual Congregational Meeting
————————————————————

Sunday, June 2
After Church Service

Everyone is encouraged to attend this important meeting. We will hear committee chairs share their reports; elect new trustees and minister search committee; and adopt an annual budget. Church By-Laws give voting privileges to: Members who have made a contribution of record during the 12-month period prior to the meeting. If you’re unsure of your pledging or contribution status, contact the church office (mailto:administrator@uusmc.org) or check your Realm profile.

** June UUDAN Meeting: Voting Rights
————————————————————
Delaware currently lags far behind most other states when it comes to voting rights. From preventing all citizens from voting early via mail-in or in-person ballots, to forcing voters to register to vote far in advance of election day, to not allowing all returning citizens to cast ballots after they finish serving felony sentences, Delaware’s voting rights laws are frighteningly out of date and harmful to marginalized communities. Andrew Bernstein of the ACLU of Delaware will discuss current and planned future efforts to amend Delaware’s constitution and expand voting access to tens of thousands of voters.
