Mill Creek’s Blue Christmas Service, held tonight at 7 pm (Dec. 22), is for those of us who struggle with the Holiday Season perhaps due to of loss or loneliness. Everyone is welcome to join us for a contemplative service of poetry, silence, and song where we might name our feelings, speak out loud of what we have lost, and find solace and comfort in one another.

This Friday, December 9 we welcome Shelton & Williams who will perform as part of the Brandywine Friends of Old Time Music concert series at Mill Creek. Celebrated bluegrass singers Johnny and Jeanette Williams (3-time SPBGMA Female Vocalist of the Year) have teamed up with bluegrass artist Jay Shelton. The band’s material is a variety of styles including original, classic country, gospel, blues, traditional and progressive bluegrass, and Americana. All are accomplished songwriters, and their original music is the focus of a new project that features the band’s infectious three-part harmony. Their set list will prominently feature this material plus favorites from previous releases. Brandywine Friends of Old Time Music presents a co

Brandywine Friends of Old Time Music presents a concert series at Mill Creek (579 Polly Drummond Hill Rd, Newark DE) with the first event to feature Critton Hollow String Band – this Friday, November 18, 8 pm.

Since 1975, the Critton Hollow String Band tends a stable of songs from the first settlements of Appalachia to the best of contemporary American folk music. Joe Herrmann, Sam Herrmann and Joe Fallon combine precise instrumentation, melodic interplay, and three-part harmony to create a warm and engaging sound. Their songs express a range of experience that can make you laugh or cry. Their ballads tell stories of bad men and disappointed lovers. Their instrumentals will make you want to get up and dance or sit back and listen. In every case, the music is pure joy.

Tickets sold at the door: general public, $20; Seniors, $17; Students with ID, $10; Ages 17 & under, free.

We have again been awarded a grant from the Delaware State Urban and Community Forestry Program to plant 17 new native trees in our meadow and woodlot the weekend of October 22. Our delivery of new native trees will include Serviceberry, Red Chokeberry, American Beech, American Holly, Black Gum, White Pine, Chestnut Oak, Pignut Hickory, and Shagbark Hickory. Everyone is welcome to join us at 9 am on Saturday, Oct. 22.
