** Memorial Bench Project is Now Complete
————————————————————
8 park-style benches made entirely of recycled plastic material were delivered to the church yesterday, Wednesday, July 26 (with 1 more on the way). Soon the benches will be adorned with memorial plaques featuring inscriptions of the names of passed members, while others will display parts of our mission statement and UU principles.

This project, coordinated by Janice Buckwalter and Rev. Greg Pelley, with assistance by committee members Jamie Kegerise, Lauri Rickard, and Amy White, was made possible by memorial donations.

The cost was ultimately reduced by the enthusiastic response to our collection of raw recyclables and delivered to the manufacturer in several batches – 90 pounds so far!

We plan to make ONE LAST delivery of recyclables to the manufacturer, Eco Plastic Products of Delaware. This Sunday, July 30th is the last day we can accept recyclables for this project; the collection bin will then be permanently removed. Thank you to Ann and Roy Draper for spearheading the collection and deliveries.

Thank you to everyone who supported this project.by donating recyclable materials while ultimately turning trash info useful products.

** Come to our next Summer Campfire
————————————————————
Everyone is welcome to join us for our next Summer Campfire on Saturday, August 5th at 7:30 pm (weather permitting). Meet us in the Memorial Grove* and bring your favorite lawn or camp chair, or a blanket, and all your comforts (beverages, bug spray, etc.). *Note that there is a slight grassy incline leading to the campfire site.

And bring a friend!
This is a good opportunity to invite someone – friend, family member, neighbor – to join our gathering and enjoy fellowship, singing, poetry, and storytelling.

Newark Schools Uniform Drive

The city of Newark is collecting school uniform items in support of five schools in the Newark area.

Many schools in the state of Delaware follow a similar school uniform: solid color polo shirt and khaki pants. This additional expense can become a hardship for families, and the consequences of not adhering to the dress code policy can be detrimental to students. Here’s how you can help.

What is needed:
* new or gently used uniform items in ALL SIZES, from youth size 5T to adult size XL
* solid color short or long sleeved polo shirts – NO logos or slogans – ALL colors acceptable
* solid khaki and/or navy long pants

Drop Off Location:
Newark United Methodist Church Welcome Center
62 E. Delaware Avenue
Newark, Delaware
Monday – Friday, 9:30 am to 4:00 pm
302-368-8774

** Current Share Our Plate Recipient
————————————————————
We regularly donate a portion of our undesignated plate collection to a local charity or non-profit organization. For the months of July and August we are supporting:

Unitarian Universalist Delaware Advocacy Network (UUDAN)
UUDAN brings together the five Delaware UU congregations to engage in legislative action in the state of Delaware. Their mission is to inform, recruit and mobilize UU advocates to work, in partnership with other advocacy organizations, for the many social justice issues we face today. It provides a vehicle to research and draft legislation and lobby for reform measures in Dover.
Learn more about UUDAN here (http://www.uudeladvo.org/wp/sample-page/)
Support this organization with your online donation HERE. Be sure to select ‘Share Our Plate’ as the giving fund. (https://onrealm.org/MillCreek/Give)
Thank you for your support!

** Sunday Worship Service Information
July 30, 2023
10:30 am

————————————————————

This Sunday, Mill Creek member Jamie Kegerise shares his message,

We Are Better Together:
An Old White Guy Considers Cooperative Living

Unitarians and Universalists have a history of building utopian communities, and UU’s these days are envisioning more cooperative, socially connected, and environmentally sustainable housing communities. Jamie is involved with a small group of folks, including several UU’s, trying to build a cohousing community right here in northern Delaware. Join us as he shares what he has learned about cooperative living and the benefits in doing so.

Music for the morning will be performed by Gwendolyn Ryan, flutist, and Aaron McCloskey, accompanist.
