Music is a vibrant and important element of our services. Visitors may recognize some familiar tunes and words, but will also hear a reflection of our diversity and our respect for many traditions.

Honoring Many Traditions

Services feature a wide range of musical genres. All styles and sources of music are welcome in our worship — from Broadway showtunes to bluegrass, classical to contemporary, folk to gospel — wherever a piece speaks truth and moves the spirit.

Most often our communal singing draws from Singing the Living Tradition, Singing the Journey, and Sing Out Love — the UUA’s new digital hymnal bringing vital new music from contemporary UU composers into congregational worship. Together, these hymnals carry our tradition’s full range of song: generations of beloved UU hymns alongside the new music being written for our faith right now. All include diverse voices from many traditions.

Guest instrumentalists, vocalists, and choirs — from klezmer bands to gospel singers to classically trained soloists — are often invited to enhance our worship together.
