** Rosh Hashanah Greetings
————————————————————
Rosh Hashanah (meaning “head or first of the year”) is a celebration of the Jewish New Year signifying the end of the Hebrew calendar cycle. It marks the beginning of the Jewish High Holy Days leading up to Yom Kippur. This year it began at sundown on Wednesday, October 2 and ends after nightfall on Friday, October 4th. It is often treated as a time to reflect on the previous year and focus on hopes for the coming year.
Shana Tova and good new year to all who celebrate.
** Concert this Friday Evening

Featuring: Steam Machine
Brandywine Friends of Old Time Music returns to Mill Creek with another concert series featuring Steam Machine, a bluegrass band from Minnesota, as the series opener. While not purists, Steam Machine listens closely to the “old stuff” and strives to capture the essence of what makes these tunes and songs special, as they hear it.
Friday, October 4 – 7:30 pm
Tickets sold at the door: general public, $25; seniors, $20; students w/ID, $15; ages 17 and under, FREE
Learn more about the band and take a listen to their music HERE (https://www.steammachinemusic.com/watch-and-listen)

** In Appreciation:
Hospitality Team
————————————————————
We are proclaiming this Sunday, October 6, as Thank Your Hospitality Volunteers Day!
Have you ever enjoyed a hot cup of coffee or tea, or snacked on a cookie or other treat after church service on a Sunday? If so, it’s because our Hospitality Team made it happen! Carol Yetter, Frank Burns, Suzanne Smith, and Susan Klugerman work together to enhance our worship experience by offering refreshments after service every week; they also keep our kitchen clean & tidy, and well organized. We are grateful for their willingness to serve our church community! The team always welcomes a few more helping hands – see Carol, Frank, Suzanne or Susan if you’d like to participate in this fundamental part of church life. Or….simply say, “Thank You.”
Hospitality is not about entertaining – it’s about engaging.
** Climate Justice Revival Donation
————————————————————
Last Sunday, September 29, we designated half of our undesignated plate collection to support Sierra Club-Delaware Chapter. We will be donating $197 to this organization.
Founded in 1892, the Sierra Club is the oldest and largest environmental advocacy organization in North America. Since 1992, the Delaware Chapter has blazed trails to protect the environment and to provide opportunities to enjoy and explore the natural beauty of our state. As a volunteer-run grassroots organization, they work to protect our air and water quality and support state legislation and policies to reduce the negative impacts from climate change on those precious resources now and in the future.

** Meadow News
————————————————————
* Free Trees! Free native trees will be available this Saturday, October 5, from 10am until 1pm (or until the trees are gone). This is sponsored by the New Castle Conservation District (https://www.newcastlecd.org/) and is part of the Tree for Every Delawarean Initiative (https://dnrec.delaware.gov/tedi/) (TEDI). The pickup address is 2430 County Road, Newark (near People’s Plaza in the Glasgow area). You can either plant your tree on your own property — or donate it to the church and we will plant it on a suitable spot in our meadow. Please request the 3-gallon size if you plan to donate your tree to the church (they also have 1- gallon sizes available). Any of the native trees they offer would be great for our meadow, but we especially love White Oak, Red Maple, American Sycamore, Willow Oak, or Sweetbay Magnolia. You just pull up in your car and open the trunk, and the nice folks will load the tree for you. Jamie will probably be at the church by 10:30 or 11:00, but you can
leave your tree at the front entrance if you don’t see him on site.
* Pizza & Beverage Night Join us for the final chance to have pizza in our meadow on Wednesday, October 9. We will begin working around 5:30pm, and the pizza should arrive by 7pm. You don’t have to do a lick of work (although we would love it if you did), and you would still be very welcome to come out just to see what we do. You can also take a walk around the property and see some of our latest Permaculture successes (our American Hazelnut and Persimmon trees that are both bearing fruit at this time).
* Wednesday work evenings continue through the end of October with work starting around 5:30pm. Most of the remaining work will center on planting new trees and primping/protecting/tending our existing trees.
* Native Flower Seed Pod collection after church on Sunday, October 20 is open to everyone to collect native flower seeds from our meadow. Use them in your home gardens, or to give to the Land Stewards seed inventory. We will be collecting seeds from Milkweed, Goldenrod, Bee Balm, Aster, Mountain Mint among other species. The Land Stewardship team will be on hand to direct you and help you identify the plants.
* Next Land Stewards meeting will be held on Sunday, November 10, following coffee time in the conference room. All are welcome including non-church members.

** Recurring Events
————————————————————
A fantasy tabletop role-playing game
The Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game is about storytelling in worlds of sword and sorcery. It shares elements with childhood games of make-believe. In the Dungeons & Dragons game, each player creates an adventurer (also called a character) and teams up with other adventurers (played by friends). Working together, the group might explore a dark dungeon, a ruined city, a haunted castle, a lost temple deep in a jungle, or a lava-filled cavern beneath a mysterious mountain. The adventurers can solve puzzles, talk with other characters, battle fantastic monsters, and discover fabulous magic items and other treasure. All are welcome to join the group on Sunday, October 13 & 27 at 12 pm in classroom 1. Occurs every 2 weeks on Sundays. Questions? Contact Tom Vincent (mailto:trv302@outlook.com) .
Drum Circle: a group of people playing unrehearsed percussion music
A drum circle is a casual gathering where people play drums and other percussion instruments together to create a group rhythm. The goal is to bring people together to experience the positive benefits of playing unrehearsed music in the moment, and to connect with others through the beat. Drum circles are open to people of all ages and abilities, and no musical experience is required – all are welcome! Please bring your own instrument or use what we have available. Join the group on Saturday, October 12 at 4 pm in the sanctuary. Plan to participate in our themed potluck dinner, a Chili Cook Off (see announcement above). Occurs monthly on second Saturdays. See or contact Sara Durham (mailto:saradurham88@gmail.com) with any questions.

** How You Can Support Recovery Efforts after Hurricane Helene
————————————————————
The scale of destruction in the wake of Hurricane Helene has been utterly devastating to many communities in the southeastern United States. Some Unitarian Universalist congregations have been seriously impacted and others are still trying to assess the damage. You can help support Unitarian Universalists and their communities as they recover from this storm by giving generously to the UUA’s Disaster Relief Fund.
