** New Addition to our Religious Education Team
————————————————————

Margaret hails from the Bronx, New York and has lived in Delaware since 1991. She’s been in the education field since 1992 and is currently employed full-time with the Newark Charter School as a kindergarten assistant. She shares that her most important job has been raising her two beautiful sons: Andrew, 18, is a recent graduate and Eric, 15, has just begun his sophomore year of high school. She also has a bonus daughter, Chelsea, 32, who has two beautiful sons of her own: Declan, age 6 and Eamon, almost 3. Spending time with her loved ones is incredibly important to Margaret.

It is my extreme pleasure to walk beside the children of this community as they begin their faith journey and I look forward to getting to know everyone. I thank you for entrusting me with this wonderful opportunity to touch the lives and hearts of the children at Mill Creek.

** School Supplies Drive a Success
————————————————————
School supplies have been delivered to Etta J. Wilson Elementary School (K-5). Principal Mabel Boutte was present and expressed her delight and gratitude for receiving our donations.

Thank you to everyone who supported this project, and especially to Ann and Roy Draper who coordinated the collection and delivery.

** Sanctuary Paint Project Next Week
————————————————————

Beginning Tuesday, September 5th: Be aware that the sanctuary, gathering space, and all exterior doors will be painted. Please plan accordingly.

** Ingathering Sunday
————————————————————

September 10, 2023

Join us for the official church year kickoff on Sunday, September 10. We will participate in our water ceremony, in which each of us is invited to bring water from our travels or home to join together, and we’ll celebrate the new church year with a choral performance from members of our congregation.

This service will be followed by our monthly potluck lunch. Bring a dish to share if you wish.

** Our Asian Pear Crop is In!
————————————————————
Help yourself to our bumper crop of Asian Pears that have just been picked from the meadow. These are chemical free, organic, and so very good for you! Asian Pears are high in fiber, antioxidants, vitamins C and K, potassium, and copper, and they help with blood sugar control. They will keep for several weeks in your refrigerator. Look for the bin in the gathering space.

** Lunch with the Minister
————————————————————

Come and have lunch at church with Rev. Christian on Tuesday, September 12 at 12 pm. He’ll prepare a main dish (usually soup or a casserole), or you can bring your own bag lunch. It will be a low-pressure time to be together, talk, and share a meal. After this date, it will be a recurring event on the first Tuesday of every month (beginning in October). All are welcome!

Questions about this event? Contact Regina Guarino (mailto:regina139@msn.com?subject=Autumnal%20Equinox%20Celebration) with questions.

** Current Share Our Plate Recipient
————————————————————

We regularly donate a portion of our undesignated plate collection to a local charity or non-profit organization. For the months of September and October we are supporting:

Sean’s House
Located at 136 W. Main Street in Newark, Sean’s House is a free resource for young adults ages 14-24. It is a home-like space designed to help members of our community improve their health and wellbeing and connect with their peers in a safe and confidential environment. Support is available 24/7 for young adults to talk about mental health or substance use challenges with other young adult Peer Specialists who have lived experience with similar challenges. The goal of these services is to improve wellness, empower members of the community, and connect young adults to resources and communities of support that meet their specific needs, with the hope of reducing the rate of youth suicide by providing a place for young adults to feel safe, welcomed, and supported.

Our donations will support the Sean’s House Peer24 Program, a training program designed to provide the skills necessary to offer the high level of support offered to visitors.

We know that in order to fight darkness, we need a team of light. A team full of family, friends, and mental health specialists with a common goal to support those who are currently fighting their own darkness.

————————————————————
Join us this Sunday for Rev. Christian’s sermon:

In the Fields

On this Labor Day weekend, we honor the worth of labor, while remembering that we are more than just what we do or what we contribute.
Music for this service will be performed by Carlos Espinoza. Carlos is a senior at Cab Calloway School of the Arts in Wilmington. Carlos began playing piano at age 7 by teaching himself a few simple songs and later received formal lessons. At Cab he has performed in many concerts and accompanied different art productions. In addition to playing piano, Carlos plays volleyball at the varsity level.

** UUJEC: a progressive organization committed to economic justice for all
————————————————————
The philosophy of Unitarian Universalists for a Just Economic Community (UUJEC) is rooted in the UU liberal religious tradition – to create a world of justice, equity, and compassion. Their work contributes to a broader movement for social change, in collaboration with the UUA, UU Service Committee and grassroots organizations. We seek to inspire and help UUs to study our society’s economic and social systems and advocate for justice issues like The Green New Deal and Single Payer healthcare.
