** UUs Show Up at Newark Nite
————————————————————
Put on your UU t-shirt and show up at Mill Creek’s tabling event at Newark Nite on E. Main Street THIS FRIDAY, JUNE 5, 5-9 pm.

This event, happening on E. Main Street, stretching from S. Chapel Street to S. College Avenue, returns after an 8-year hiatus and allows for foot-traffic only. It features live music, demonstrations, food vendors, arts and crafts vendors, resale vendors, a beer garden, and a children’s area featuring games, crafts and inflatables. Our table, 216, is located in front of Washington House.

Parking: parking will be FREE in all city-run lots including Lot 1 behind the Main Street Galleria, Lot 3 behind Caffé Gelato, Lot 4 behind Home Grown Cafe, and Lot 6 behind the University of Delaware bookstore. Additionally, UD’s Trabant garage will also offer free parking. Note that Main Street will be closed between South Chapel Street and South College Avenue, so these lots must be accessed via Delaware Avenue or Center Street.

After church service
Everyone is encouraged to attend the Mill Creek Annual Meeting. We will hear committee chairs share information about their activities; acknowledge our outgoing and long-serving board president; acknowledge outgoing trustees and nominating committee members; elect a new board president, trustees, and nominating committee members; and adopt an annual budget.

Attendance at the meeting is open to everyone. However, church By-Laws give voting privileges to members who have made a contribution of record during the 12-month period prior to the meeting.

** Scoop, smile, repeat!
————————————————————

All are welcome to join us Saturday, June 13 at 6:30 pm for our annual Ice Cream Social.

We’ll have lots of treats, volleyball, corn hole, and other low‑skill, fun-filled yard games. Rain won’t stop the fun—come enjoy a sweet summer evening with friends.

We are looking for 2 volunteers to help with set-up at 6pm and/or clean-up at 7:45. Please contact Chris Reynolds here (mailto:reynoldschristine0@gmail.com) .

** Spiritual Practices Workshop
————————————————————

On Sunday, June 14, during the service, the Worship Committee will host a Spiritual Practices Workshop.

You’ll be invited to choose one spiritual practice that you’d like to explore and practice for about 30 minutes. The choices will include mind, body, spirit, and soul practices and will take the form of outside activities, yoga, art making, and meditation. You’ll get to choose one activity to sample that day.

Please wear appropriate clothing for your choice of spiritual practice (bring a yoga mat if you plan to explore yoga, for example).

** Big Music News
————————————————————

The Music Committee is pleased to announce the return of

When is it? Sunday, July 12.
Why do we love it? It’s simply a fun celebration of our congregation’s talent woven into a Sunday worship service.
Who can participate? Anyone — all ages!
How do I sign up? Drop us a line HERE (mailto:music@uusmc.org) to express your interest or if you have any questions. For planning purposes, we need sign ups completed by AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

10:30 am
————————————————————

This Sunday we celebrate Pride Month — witnessing history, honoring grief and rage, and erupting in joy. Join us as we hear powerful words, make a little good trouble, and learn new songs together.

All are welcome. Bring your whole self.

We are honored to welcome back the Rainbow Chorale of Delaware who will be offering the music for this service. The RCD is an inclusive, non-profit community chorus that provides LGBTQ+ individuals, with their friends and allies, the opportunity to perform high-quality choral music in an affirming environment that serves as a positive force for change. The Rainbow Chorale supports other institutions and individuals who serve that community. Love of music is common to everyone. When we sing, we hope to impart the ideals, hopes, dreams, and aspirations of our community. Our goal is that with our listening audience we will strike a chord of commonality and bridge the differences of our life experiences. Performers will include Stosh Pehowic, Jazmin Reyes, Renna Van Oot, Julie Hilfiker, Kim vonWeltin, Luisa Torrielli, Jake Dums, Darren Michener, Martha Eldreth, Melanie Smith, and Kim Wiltbank.

Plan to remain with us after the service for our Annual Meeting.

** Come to our Summer Solstice Celebration
————————————————————
What does it mean to call yourself Pagan?
* A Pagan follows a spiritual journey informed by natural life and seasons, embracing the lessons and healing that nature provides.
* A Pagan considers all of Life sacred, recognizing and appreciating the abundance of the natural world, honoring that which provides Life—whatever you may call it: the Source, Great Spirit, Goddess…
* A Pagan celebrates in ritual the seasonal changes, Equinox, Solstice [and more] as the Earthly transitions and as personal, spiritual transitions.

Join us on Monday evening, June 22, and experience our Summer Solstice Ritual.

** Reptile vs Dinosaur: Nature Drama in Our Meadow
————————————————————
I’m feeling quite guilty about not having installed snake baffles on our meadow bird houses, but nature is often cruel and the fit tend to survive. The Black Rat Snake at around 6 foot long looks quite fit and had a lucky find of Barn Swallow eggs. The Swallows, our modern dinosaurs, will likely lay another brood this summer, and maybe we can get them more protection by then.

The Black Rat Snake is harmless to humans (non-poisonous), and actually quite beneficial as it eats mostly (you guessed it) rodents. Having a large healthy snake like that in our meadow also suggests that we might be doing some things right when it comes to supporting nature.

Life and death are everyday occurrences, and we have examples and reminders in our meadow all the time (think deer carcasses and other mammal bones). You should certainly pay attention to the things that can do you harm in our meadow (ticks, Poison Ivy, sunburn, thorns). I’m hoping you’re not scared of the snakes you could possibly encounter in the meadow, and I hope we can teach our children to appreciate and protect all creatures, great and small, predator or prey, reptile or dinosaur.

** Current Share Our Plate Recipient
————————————————————
We regularly donate a half of our undesignated plate collection to a local charity or non-profit organization. For the months of May & June we are supporting:

Black Mothers in Power

This organization seeks to dismantle systems of power to eradicate the racial health disparities that harm Black birthing people and babies throughout Delaware while building new systems of care and healing. Black Mothers in Power envisions building a state where Black birthing people are informed, in control of their own bodies, and cared for—both within the current oppressive system and in the liberatory systems we’ve created for ourselves.

** Dungeons & Dragons
A Recurring Event
————————————————————

Sundays: June 7 & 21
(every other week)
12:00 pm, Classroom 4

D&D is a role-playing game about storytelling in worlds of swords and sorcery. Each player creates an adventurer (also called a character) and teams up with other adventurers (played by friends). Working together, the group might explore a dark dungeon, a ruined city, a haunted castle, a lost temple deep in a jungle, or a lava-filled cavern beneath a mysterious mountain. The adventurers can solve puzzles, talk with other characters, battle fantastic monsters, and discover fabulous magic items and other treasure. No registration required – just drop in. All are welcome to join the group in classroom 4. Occurs every other week on Sundays.
